Case comment: Transsexual Rights in the United Kingdom - Andrews, J.A.
Andrews reviews the Cossey case (Cossey v UK). Cossey was registered at birth as a boy, and consequently 'sought and largely obtained the social, psychological and biological characteristics of a woman'. The UK government refused to issue the applicant with a birth certificate with the sex altered to 'female'. Cossey stated that this refusal amounted to an obstruction against her right to respect for her private life. E.L. Rev. 1991, 16(3), 262-266
