Al-Adsani v UK (2002) 34 EHRR 11

Case concerning a man with joint British and Kuwait citizenship. On a return visit to Kuwait in 1991, while campaigning against Iraqi invasion he was allegedly abducted and tortured. Back in the UK Al-Adsani sought medical attention and attempted to claim against the government of Kuwait. This claim was unsuccessful as he was a British citizen and could not sue the state under the State Immunity Act 1978. On appeal the ECHR found that the European Convention on Human Rights was not violated by the country's state immunity.
